Rahim Yar Khan, Pakistan — In an intelligence-led operation on Sunday, Punjab Police successfully neutralized two high-profile suspects, Badla Manglani and Qasim Chachar, who were wanted for a string of violent crimes. The operation, which unfolded in the Kacha Jamal Din Wali region of Rahim Yar Khan, was aimed at dismantling organized crime and restoring peace in the area.
Key Details of the Operation
Who Were the Suspects?
Badla Manglani and Qasim Chachar were identified as “high-value targets” due to their involvement in severe criminal cases, including the martyrdom of police officers and various violent crimes. Their criminal activities spanned across Punjab and Sindh, with cases registered in both Rahim Yar Khan and Ghotki districts.
In May 2023, they allegedly opened fire on Sindh Police’s Assistant Sub Inspector Amanullah Abro, resulting in his death. They were also suspected in the killing of Punjab Constable Akbar Gopang in Bhong.
Where and How the Operation Unfolded
The operation took place in the mango orchards of Kacha Jamal Din Wali, a region notorious for criminal hideouts and violent gang activity. Following intelligence on the suspects’ whereabouts, police forces, led by CIA Bhong’s Jibran Jerad and Jamal Din Wali Chowki In-charge, mobilized using armored vehicles.
Upon arrival, the suspects reportedly opened fire, initiating a gunfight that concluded with both dacoits killed. Their bodies were transported to a nearby hospital for identification and further legal procedures.
What Was Recovered?
After the shootout, police recovered an assortment of heavy weaponry, including Kalashnikov rifles, ammunition, and a stolen motorcycle. Authorities believe the suspects were planning a major crime, which was thwarted by the swift police response.
A continued search operation is underway to secure the area and apprehend any additional suspects who may be connected to this criminal network.
IG Punjab Commends Police Efforts
Punjab Inspector General Dr. Usman Anwar lauded the team’s bravery, especially District Police Officer Rizwan Umar Gondal, for their role in neutralizing the threat posed by Manglani and Chachar. Dr. Anwar emphasized the importance of continued intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in the region and instructed local law enforcement to maintain a vigilant stance against gang activity.
Growing Concern Over “Katcha” Crime Activity
The Katcha area, straddling the border between Sindh and Punjab, has become a hotbed for organized crime, with local gangs reportedly using abduction and extortion as primary tactics. This month alone, at least 12 residents were reportedly abducted in Rahim Yar Khan, raising alarm among local citizens, business leaders, and politicians. The Sukhani Gang, led by ringleader Kabul Sukhani—who currently has a Rs10 million bounty on his head—was recently linked to the kidnapping of three individuals, including two Hindu residents.
Despite these challenges, the Punjab Police’s recent success in neutralizing Manglani and Chachar represents a significant step forward in the ongoing effort to dismantle criminal networks in the Katcha region.
