Punjab Launches Green Tractor Scheme to Boost Agriculture

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has revived the Green Tractor Scheme, aimed at supporting farmers in the province after a 12-year hiatus. This initiative will provide financial assistance and modern equipment to enhance agricultural productivity.

Key Features of the Green Tractor Scheme

  • Digital Balloting: A transparent digital process has been established to select beneficiaries.
  • Subsidy Details: Each of the 9,500 farmers participating in the scheme will receive a subsidy of Rs 1 million for the purchase of a green tractor.
  • Distribution Plans:
    • Okara: 339 tractors
    • Chakwal: 111 tractors
    • Dera Ghazi Khan: 276 tractors
  • Lucky Draw for Farmers: An additional 1,000 tractors will be distributed for free through a lucky draw for wheat growers with 25 to 50 acres of land.

First Beneficiary and Impact

Yaseen, the first recipient from Okara, along with other farmers like Talib Hussain from Chakwal and Ghulam Akbar from Dera Ghazi Khan, are set to benefit from this scheme. This initiative aims to modernize farming practices and promote innovation in agriculture.

Commitment to Modern Agriculture

Chief Minister Nawaz emphasized the government’s commitment to transitioning agriculture towards modern mechanization. She even took a test drive on one of the tractors to demonstrate her support for the initiative.
