Qatar to Invest $3 Billion in Pakistan, Boosting Economy

Qatar has pledged to invest $3 billion in various sectors of Pakistan, which is expected to positively impact the national economy. This announcement follows recent high-level discussions between Pakistan and Qatar.

Significant Investment Announced

Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar announced on Friday that Qatar plans to invest $3 billion in diverse sectors in Pakistan. This investment is anticipated to significantly bolster the national economy and benefit the populace. A delegation from Qatar is expected to visit Pakistan soon to finalize this investment commitment.

Economic Stabilization Efforts

Minister Tarar highlighted the ongoing efforts to stabilize Pakistan’s economy. He noted that inflation has decreased to 6.9%, and the country has seen record remittances. Additionally, interest rates have been reduced, encouraging an influx of investment. Pakistan has also achieved a fiscal surplus for the first time in 24 years.

Successful Saudi Visit

The minister referenced a recent successful visit from a Saudi delegation that resulted in 27 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) aimed at $2.2 billion in investment. This number has now increased to 34 MoUs, raising the investment total to $2.8 billion. Key sectors targeted include mining, energy, agriculture, livestock, IT, and human resource development.

Strengthening Pakistan-Qatar Relations

Tarar emphasized the importance of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Qatar, which reinforced the friendly ties between the two nations. During this visit, an exhibition showcasing Pakistani art was held, further strengthening cultural connections. The warm reception the Prime Minister received underscored the importance of the relationship.

Criticism of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government

In his address, Minister Tarar criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government, labeling it as ‘non-serious’ regarding public service initiatives. He pointed to deficiencies in health and infrastructure and asserted that the KP government will be held accountable by the public for its performance.
